Overview

Visiting a deserted and crumbling mud-brick village can be an experience of a life-time for many of us. In this tour we will visit Kharanaq village which has been occupied for about 4,000 years. The old part of the village is a great place for taking photos from all its labyrinth of streets, tunnels, passageways, and rooms, along with the impressive buildings of the village including: a small Qajar era mosque, a cylindrical 17th-century shaking minaret, and an old caravanserai. Also, we will pay a visit to the old citadel of Kharanaq which dates back to the historical periods of Islam.

The landscape of the village, with all its mud-brick houses and buildings is a fine example of historic desert architecture in Iran and you will have the opportunity to have photo shooting in the site. The tour will continue by driving to the well-known Chak Chak Fire Temple after having lunch (in a distance of about 30 km from Kharanaq).

As the most sacred of the Zoroastrians mountain shrines, Chak Chak Fire temple or the Temple of Pir-e Sabz is an important pilgrimage point for Zoroastrians. Every June thousands of Zoroastrians visit the fire temple and fire candles.

With its two large bronze doors, the fire temple is located in a rocky mountain slope and has created a special place for the people who want to sit in absolute isolation and mediate. In the altar, there are three oil-burning lights and in front of it, there is a set of trays combined in such a way to look like a lotus flower from above where is considered a place to receive donations from pilgrims.

The tour will provide you with an opportunity to experience spiritual moments in Chak Chak along with getting familiar with life in a historical deserted village in Yazd.

Tour duration is from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Yazd Iran

Thanks to Kamal who made my day memorable and comfortable as the only passenger in a car with Andrew as third person as driver of us. This was the best economic and the most time-saving option of visiting major points in Yazd Iran without missing anything particular.

Yazd highlights

We had an amazing experience. This tour is a great combination of historical sightseeing (get to see the ancient city) and Cultural tour (visiting fire temple and the village). Our guide Hanis was super helpful and knowledgable about the place — thank you!
