Yazd to Kerman Highway Zein-o-Din, Yazd Iran
The only reason to travel to remote Zein-o-Din Caravanserai, is to see the 400-year-old caravanserai erected under Shah Abbas I's instructions. The caravanserai was part of a network of 999 similar hostels created to stimulate commerce and was located two days' camel ride south of Yazd - approximately 60km - on the main route to Kerman in an otherwise empty desert plain.
Zein-o-din is unique in that it is one of only two circular caravanserais in the world (the other, near Esfahan, is largely destroyed). It is still used as a traveler's lodge, and for those with the imagination to conjure up days of yore with camels grumbling outside the door, a night's stay here provides a chilling peek into the life of a caravan merchant on the Silk Road.
The Zein-o-Din Caravanserai has 33 rooms. If you're traveling by car, you won't have to worry about finding a parking spot. The parking lot, which has a capacity of 600 automobiles, is available for your use. Breakfast is free in Zein-o-Din Caravanserai, as it is in other B&B lodgings in Iran. Every morning, enjoy your breakfast in the hotel's tranquil and distinctive ambiance.
