As the capital city of Iran, Tehran has a lot to offer to its tourists which mainly date back to the Qajar and Pahlavi eras (the last two dynasties before the revolution of 1979). Visiting the downtown attractions can take the visitor to the old Tehran with its all hustle and bustle. During this one-day Tehran Must-sees, we will start from Imam Khomeini Square (Mashq Square in the old times) and the historic buildings and museums in the neighborhood.
However, the most important ones we will spend more time on will be The National Garden gateway (Sar Dar-e Bagh Melli), National Museum of Iran, the Treasury of National Jewels and the Golestan Palace
We will spend some time in the National Museum of Iran also known as the Archeological Museum of Iran to visit its both parts as Pre-Islamic or Ancient Iran and Islamic Era Museums. The former has objects from ancient Persepolis, Chogha Zanbil, Susa and many more from pre-Islamic Iran. The latter, however, has wonderful exhibits from Abbasid, Seljuk, Ilkhanid, Safavid, Qajar periods, all displayed in chronological order. As an expert in Persian Art and History, your guide will explain you the secrets of 3 thousand years old civilization in detail.
No matter if you have or haven’t visited a jewelry museum before, you will bet astonished by the jewels in the National Museum of Jewelry (the Treasury of National Jewels). It’s located in the building of the Central Bank of Iran and displays hundreds of national treasures collected by different kings and dynasties of ancient Persia. Among all, we can name the highlights as Daria-I-Noor is the largest diamond of the historic World. The Peacock Throne, The Samarian Spinel, and Pahlavi Crown.
Last but not least, is the visit of the Golestan Palace as one of the oldest historic monuments in Tehran and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit the Reception Hall (Talar Salam), Royal Garden, Marble Throne (Eyvan Takhte-e-Marmar) and The Badgir (wind catcher) inside the palace-complex.
