Overview

In an excursion to the outskirts of Shiraz, we will explore the Sassanid city of Firuzabad along with a visit to the tents of nomads living nearby. The tour will start from Qaleh Dokhtar, continuing to Ardeshir Babakan Palace, enjoying nature, visiting the nomadic tents and finally the round-shape city of Firuzabad.

Qaleh Dokhtar is located on a mountainous hill for which we will have a climbing of 300 meters. It’s known as the first construction of Ardeshir, the founder of the Sassanid dynasty in Iran. There are some gorgeous carvings on this site made of stone and plaster. The next highlight of the tour is Ardeshir Babakan Palace’s ruins. Although being destroyed during the time, the exquisite decorations are still eye-catching. There’s a fire temple on the east side of the palace where was used as a prayer house for the Zoroastrians.

Visiting these archaeological sites and learning about the Sassanid era, we will enjoy spending some time in a valley close to the ancient city of Firuzabad and then visit the tents of Qashqai Nomads. Along with getting familiar with their intriguing lifestyle, you can buy their products as souvenirs.

The last visit will be to Firuzabad city itself which was known as Ardeshir Khoreh in the old times. There’s a minaret in the middle of the city which used to be a symbol of the kingdom's power.

Being an architectural, archeological and natural tour, it will also give you the opportunity to get to know the nomads’ lifestyle in their tents.

Tour duration is from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Shiraz Nomad

We put one more day extra for Shiraz and I was heard that around Shiraz there are some historical sites and also Nomad tribe which is worth visiting. We stay for a couple of hours in tent with Qashqai tribe, amazing and unique local experience when you see they made food and clothes out of nature.
