Overview

Located in southern Iran, the city of Kerman is so different from the other parts of the country. Unlike the green landscape of northern and mountainous western Iran, the southern part of the country has lovely desert views. Cities are designed accordingly to adapt to their surroundings.

As one of the most important UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Iran, the first visit of this tour will be to the citadel of Bam also known as “Bam and its Cultural Landscape” at the crossroads of the Silk Road. The citadel is the largest brick construction in the world which is built in the 5th century BC. Walking through the corridors and halls of the citadel in an area of 200,000 square meters, you will travel to the old times when it was used as a great fortress before 1850. The whole structure consists of architectural forms including the tower, the walls of the fence, numerous gates, a mosque, the market, the caravanserai, the bath and some more constructions. The whole structure was greatly damaged in 2003 due to the earthquake of 6.6 in the Richter scale and reconstructed afterward.

On our way back to Kerman, the next visit will be to another citadel known as Arg-e Rayen. This great adobe fortress is perfectly preserved and by now it stands almost undisturbed by the several natural disasters through the pass of time during the 150 years from its birth.

Tour duration is from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Kerman citadels, Bam and Rayen

Bam is under reconstruction and partly is destroyed but still lots of wonders to explore in the citadel. Rayen is smaller than Bam but it looks more intact and well-maintained
