Many tourists love to experience tasting local foods of the country they are traveling to, but some will only travel to taste foods! In this 8-day Persian food tasting tour, we will travel in northern and north-western Iran with our main focus on exploring local foods of every region. Every corner of Iran has its own variety of cuisine and specialty, with different flavors from sweet to sour. This tour will also give us the chance to explore some behind-the-scene food experiences which are not available in other classic tours!
Starting from the capital city of Tehran, we will start tasting Iranian food by the most well-known one, Dizi or Abgousht. Later on, moving to the north-west of the country, we will get to know the culture and food of Azeris in Tabriz. The city is famous for its variety of sweets from which Nougat is the world-famous one. We will also taste Koofte Tabrizi as local food in the area. Moving to Ardabil, we will taste some famous local stews like Ashe Dough (made with vegetables and yogurt), Ashe Miveh (Fruits stew) and Torshi Garma.
The next destinations are close to the Caspian Sea beach, some green cities with their special nature. We will taste a special-made cookie known as Kolouche Fooman and visit the local bazaar of Rasht. Rasht is a UNESCO registered city as the creative city of gastronomy. We have the opportunity to taste Kateh Kebab, Baghali Ghatogh, Mirza Ghasemi and Torshi Kebab (Sour Kebab). The last city is Qazvin, where we will taste Qeimeh Nesar a special stew containing different nuts like pistachio and served with white rice.
Altogether, we will taste the foods including Aabgousht, Koofteh Tabrizi, Ash-e Dough, Ash-e Miveh, Torshi Garma Stew, Mirza Ghassemi, Baghali Ghatogh, Qeimeh Nesar along with sweets and snacks of the cities we are visiting.

Arrive in Tehran anytime. Meet and assist upon arrival and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in a 4-star hotel in Tehran.

Starting our daily Tehran tour, we will visit some of the most iconic attractions of the city including Golestan Palace, Tehran Grand Bazaar and the National Museum of Iran. For lunch, we will have our first Iranian dish called Dizi or Abgousht. We will also learn about the ingredients, recipe, and serving of it. Overnight in a 4-star hotel in Tehran.

After having our breakfast, we will check out of the hotel to take our transfer to the domestic airport of Mehrabad in Tehran to fly to Tabriz. Upon arrival in Tabriz, we will have a city tour to see the most important highlights including the Blue Mosque, the Constitutional House of Tabriz and the Traditional UNESCO registered Bazaar. We will have a meal in Timcheh Mozaffariyeh and taste the delicious Koofteh Tabrizi as one of the most popular local foods. It’s usually served with different side dishes and we will learn about cooking it. Tabriz is also famous for its variety of yummy sweets from which Nougat is world-famous. We will drive to Sarein in the late afternoon to enjoy some time in its hot spas. Overnight in a 4-star hotel in Tabriz.

After checking out of hotel, we will drive to Ardabil (around 220 km) enjoying the wonderful natural scenery and the fresh air of the mountains en-route. Arriving in Ardabil, we will visit the Tomb of Sheikh Safi-adin Ardabili. The city is well-known for its various local stews suiting its cold weather, including Ash-e Dough, Ash-e Miveh (fruits stew) and Torshi Garma Stew. We will drive to Sarein in the late afternoon to enjoy some time in its hot spas. Overnight in a 4-star hotel in Sarein.

We will drive to the Caspian Sea coast after having our breakfast and checking out of the hotel. En-route we will visit the amazing stair-stepped village of Masuleh and Fooman. In Fooman we will taste Fooman Cookies as their local special. Moving on, we will drive to Anzali Port (Bandar Anzali) and visit Anzali Lagoon. We will taste a yummy local food made with freshly caught fish from the Caspian Sea. Total drive of about 245 km from Ardabil, overnight will be in a 4-star hotel in Bandar Anzali.

Checking out of our hotel after breakfast, we will drive to Rasht (about 40 km), the creative city of gastronomy as UNESCO designated. We have the chance to taste different local foods like Kateh Kebab, Baghali Ghatogh, Mirza Ghasemi and Torshi Kebab (Sour Kebab). The city exploration will be completed by visiting the local Bazaar and Gilan’s Rural Heritage Museum. Overnight in a 4-star hotel in Rasht.

Having our breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and drive to Qazvin (around 170 km), our last destination before getting back to Tehran. The historical city of Qazvin has a lot to offer to its tourists including Saad al-Saltaneh Caravanserai, Chehel Souton, the Jame Mosque of Qazvin, Qajar Bathhouse and Anthropology Museum. The most famous local food of Qazvin is Qeimeh Nesar, a really tasty stew served with plain cooked rice with nuts as one of the most unique ingredients. Overnight in a 4-star hotel in Qazvin.

Yes, of course. Our travel experts suggest the most important highlights, however as a private tour, you can choose your personal favorite attractions and activities.
Where does the tour start and end?
The tour starts in Tehran by picking you up from the IKA airport and finishes in Tehran by drop off at the IKA airport.
How long before a trip should I book?
In high season months like April, May, September, and October hotels, tours and driver guides will be sold out very soon. Hence, it is better to book your trip as soon as you can.
Can you provide the tour in other languages?
The default tour-guide for the tour is English-speaking. However, upon your request we can check the possibility to have a tour guide in another language. It may include an extra cost.
Are arrival and departure airport transfers included in the tour package?
Of course. Both arrival and departure airport transfers for your international flights are included with the company of your tour guide.
Is it possible to book this trip with some of my friends?

Persian food Tour
2020 was a difficult year to travel, but if you can make it, it is all worth it! Given the various restrictions imposed on tourism during this period, Exotigo still delivered a rich and smooth programme: food was great, tours are interesting, hotels are comfortable and in great locations, and the cooking class is particularly fun. We focused on the food aspects in this tour, the knowledge behind the food provided great insight into Iranian people, history and culture. Pejman was hands-on all way through the tour to make sure everything went well, and all the guides are professional, knowledgable, and helped us to make the most of the trip during this difficult time.

Iran food tour
I have travelled different countries and one of the first things I'm interested in any land is the unique food I'm offered. I knew that middle east is one of the most recommendable places on Earth to enjoy food. These guys did their best and professionally to introduce Iranian food and I loved it.

Off beaten Iran
I am not sure this tour considered as off-beaten or not but literally, I can say for those who love experience local culture and local food and Iranian cuisine that would not be anything better than this tour. You have to take care as Iranian cuisine usually contain lots of oil and possibly that's why it's delicious so do not eat so much.
