Overview

This is an artistic cultural tour to the birthplace of beads of fortune (called Kharmohreh in Iran) to get to know its history and the techniques used in its production. Kharmohreh is a six-thousand-year-old handicraft that has been kept alive in the city of Qom. Used in accessories and jewelry, it is believed to bring good luck.

In this family workshop, we will get introduced to the history of Persian Blue Beads firstly by watching a short documentary about it. Later on, we will visit a working area where skilled craftspeople are making beads and you can observe the way they are creating the artworks and ask them the questions that come up to you.

The next part is making our won blue beads. We will be given the tools and materials needed to make Kharmohreh and with the assistance of a professional mentor, we will make our artwork with any kind of design we have in our mind. As these artworks will need to be baked in a kiln, they can be given to you at the end of your trip in Iran (if it’s long enough), shipped to your selected location everywhere in the world, or be given to the next visitors of the workshop as gifts (you can leave a short message for them if you wish).

The last part is visiting the shopping area of the workshop and you are free to buy any kind of original handicrafts in case of being interested. This one-hour and a half experience is a great opportunity to get to know an ancient handicraft of Iran and engage in making it.

Tour duration is for 1 hour and a half, you can book for any time from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Iran workshop tour

Making blue beads was such a wonderful experience I had while I was going from Tehran to Kashan in Qom. a kind teacher that speaks English fluent and he let us make our own beads and after it gets dry we keep it for ourselves as souvenir.

Qom workshop

It was a good and enjoyable session. Fun learning how to use our hands to mould and create those blue beads art work! Although the location is a little far off, overall I would still recommend for a different kind of experience. My friends and I had fun.
