Located in the center, the 600,000 square meters shrine has seven courtyards. Millions of pilgrims from all over the world flock into the shrine annually. The attractive tile work, mostly in blue, decorated with eye-catching calligraphy ornament the porches and minarets of the place. The golden dome of the shrine shines in the center. Only Muslims are allowed to enter the inner sanctuary. However, everybody can enjoy magnificent courtyards and architecture. Besides, different museums featuring stamps, medals dedicated by Iranian athletes, and carpet are located at the Imam Reza shrine complex. The previous shrine’s zarih (an ornate, lattice structure, that encloses a grave in a shrine), which was replaced in 2001, is also kept in a museum at the shrine.

You can pay a visit to the mausoleum of Nader Shah (1688 -1747) while traveling Mashhad. His tomb is located in downtown. You can also pay a visit to a museum which feature documents, artifacts, and military asset. The mausoleum was built by the renowned Iranian architect Houshang Seyhoun in the Persian year calendar 1342 (1963-1964).

If you are lucky enough, you can hear the epic poems read aloud by some visitors and avid enthusiasts of the Persian poet Ferdowsi (940–1020). He was the author magnum opus ‘Shahnameh’ is laid in Tus, 20 kilometers north of Mashhad in a beautiful garden. The magnificent tomb was built in the 1930s inspired by Achaemenid architecture. Ferdowsi is one of the most influential figures in Persian literature and one of the greatest in the history of literature.

A modern monument in the city of Nishapur, the Mausoleum of Omar Khayyam is a must-see place. The fantastic mausoleum was reconstructed in 1934 by prominent architect Houshang Seyhoun. The inspiring mausoleum surrounded by a garden is a great place to spend time and tranquil. Omar Khayyam (1048 –1131) was a great Persian poem, philosopher, mathematician, and philosopher. He is widely known in English by a translation by Edward FitzGerald (Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam). The notion of ‘carpe diem’ is highlighted in his poems. The Mausoleum of Attar Nishaburi (1145 – 1221) near Khayyam tomb is located in Nishapur. The octagonal dome has four entrances. You can also pay a visit to the grave of Kamal-ol-Molk (1848-1940) in the garden surrounding the mausoleum.

Torghabeh and Shandriz County near Mashhad are natural beauties of the region. Torghabeh is a summer resort with a river flows through the village, with beautiful threes orchards. Shandiz is a beautiful village with green trees. Shandiz is famous for its Kebab. It is a great resort with pleasant weather and a great atmosphere.
