Mashhad

Mashhad, an ancient city located on the Silk Road, has a lot to offer for travelers. Mashhad means ‘place of martyrdom’. The city annually hosts a lot of Shia pilgrimage who flock into the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (S), the eighth Imam of Shia.

The shrine of Imam Reza (S) is not the only attraction of Mashhad, the city is home to historical and cultural attractions. There are a lot of museums, traditional bazaars, and sightseeing in the city that introduce you to which rich history of Mashhad.

Besides, tombs of two renowned Persian poets Khayyam, Attar, and Ferdowsi is located near Mashhad.

Imam Reza Shrine of Imam Reza Complex

Located in the center, the 600,000 square meters shrine has seven courtyards. Millions of pilgrims from all over the world flock into the shrine annually. The attractive tile work, mostly in blue, decorated with eye-catching calligraphy ornament the porches and minarets of the place. The golden dome of the shrine shines in the center. Only Muslims are allowed to enter the inner sanctuary. However, everybody can enjoy magnificent courtyards and architecture. Omar Khayyam, Attar Neyshaburi in Nishapur

A modern monument in the city of Nishapur, the Mausoleum of Omar Khayyam is a must-see place. The fantastic mausoleum was reconstructed in 1934 by prominent architect Houshang Seyhoun. The inspiring mausoleum surrounded by a garden is a great place to spend time and tranquil. Omar Khayyam (1048 –1131) was a great Persian poem, philosopher, mathematician, and philosopher.
